24 Carat Gold Mink Fur Stoller

New York City Furrier Becomes Exclusive Distributor of Patented Technique

On November 28th 2015 Marc Kaufman of Marc Kaufman Furs in NYC signed a contract with Nobline of Switzerland, becoming the only furrier on this side of the Atlantic to have the right to use the patented nanotechnology that manipulates 24 carat gold mink and infuses it into fur and leather goods. The revolutionary technique has been named Precious Surface, and unlike the topical treatments of gold foiling or gold leafing, it actually infuses real gold directly into the textile, creating a surface that is quite literally worth its weight in gold.

available exclusively from Marc Kaufman Furs

The process begins with gold bullion slabs. Then, gold atoms blend with the surface of the materials, leaving the texture of the silk, fur, or leather unaltered minus a new solid gold color, merging the beauty of fur and the opulence of 24 carat gold to create the Season’s ultimate luxury gift.

The luxury fur designer is working on a 2016 collection which consists of one-of-a-kind fur coats, jackets, gloves, handbags, and scarves.

This 24 carat gold mink will only be available at Marc Kaufman Furs NY.

Fur Is Back Big Time Marc Kaufman Furs NYC

Fur Is Back Big Time — Here’s Why

Jenna Sauers

Jenna Sauers

As we recently learned, the fur industry is booming. Global fur sales rose by 70% from 2000 to 2010. Annual sales of fur pelts reached $15-16 billion, according to the fur industry’s trade association, during the winter of 2010-11 (pelts are sold during a season that runs from around October through March, and the 2010-11 season is the most recent for which figures were available). An industry spokesperson attributed the rise primarily to two factors: designers who have incorporated small amounts of fur into a wider array of garments, making fur an option in warmer climates, and “a younger generation whose passion is not animal rights.”

This development is surprising to anyone who remembers the highly publicized battles over fur and animal welfare of the 1980s and 1990s. Back then, shocking depictions of the cruelty inherent in fur production — often in the form of polemical and, critics said, misleading videos produced by pro-animal-rights fringe groups — were only starting to reach a wider audience. Protesters were omnipresent at fashion week and public pressure to avoid fur was high. Anna Wintour was served a skinned raccoon at the Four Seasons. It seemed like every week another of your favorite celebrities was stripping off for a PETA ad. By turn of the millennium, the moral issue of fur seemed settled, and fur itself seemed like a relic of a bygone age — something that your grandparents’ generation had misguidedly believed was okay, like golliwog dolls or smoking during pregnancy. The idea of wearing something so thoroughly politicized and icky as fur just seemed ugly. Popular culture kept up with the times: when Lily Esposito chided Mary Cherry for her mink coat on Popular, Mary Cherry looked like the spoiled, amoral wench that she was.

Fur Is Back Big Time — Here's Why

But during the 2000s, things changed. Designers who hadn’t previously shown fur on the runway began showing it; designers who had previously shown some, showed more. Designers who had publicly pledged to abjure fur, like Giorgio Armani, went back on their word — as did a good number of those overexposed PETA “faces.” (Naomi Campbell even went so far as to do an ad campaign for the furrier Dennis Basso.) Fur began to creep back into fashion magazine pages. 1990s grunge and minimalism gave way to 2000s bling and ostentation. And now, fur is back in a big way. This year’s fall runways? Among the designers who showed fur and/or shearling were Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, Prada, Rebecca Minkoff, Salvatore Ferragamo, Tom Ford, Vivienne Westwood, and Yves Saint Laurent.

Fur Is Back Big Time — Here's Why

This reversal is not merely the result of a cultural trend meeting its inevitable backlash. It’s also a story of economics, and of the fur industry’s quiet battle to rebrand its product as sustainable, natural, and luxurious.

Fashion is still a very top-down business. A fur coat in a designer’s fall collection might retail for $10,000 and be ordered by a handful of stores; but that fur coat’s value in visibility for fur as a whole helps sell thousands of $60 rabbit-trimmed Michael Kors hats and $400 coyote-trimmed men’s jackets at Macy’s. To help make fur a trend that pops up in magazine editorials and online, fur suppliers often sponsor designers, giving them free product to incorporate into their seasonal collections and even sending them on junkets. In 2010, the New York Times reported that one Scandinavian supplier, Saga Furs, gave fur to Cushnie et Ochs, Thakoon, Brian Reyes, Wayne, Derek Lam, Proenza Schouler and Richard Chai. It also paid for three designers to go on a junket:

Last summer, for example, the designers Alexander Wang and Haider Ackermann, plus Alexa Adams and Flora Gill of Ohne Titel were flown to Copenhagen for weeklong visits to the design studios of Saga Furs, a marketing company that represents 3,000 fur breeders in Finland and Norway. Saga Furs regularly sponsors such design junkets.

Another fur supplier, the North American Fur Auctions, gave furs that year to Bibhu Mohapatra and Prabal Gurung. “We want to make sure fur is on the pages of magazines around the world,” said the NAFA’s director of marketing at the time. “The way to do that is to facilitate the use of fur by designers.”

Fur Is Back Big Time — Here's Why

Fur industry organizations sponsor design contests at top fashion schools, including Parsons and the Fashion Institute of Technology. (So does PETA, which enjoyed some institutional support at Parsons back when Tim Gunn was dean of its fashion school.) The prizes are often lavish, including free international travel and tens of thousands of dollars worth of product — perfect for a young designer who needs backing to launch a line. It’s no accident that fur is increasingly present on the runways: the fur industry has spent years patiently working to re-legitimize and de-stigmatize its product in the eyes of a new generation of fashion tastemakers, and fur’s current boom is the fruit of their labors. A 2007 ad campaign even called fur “the natural, responsible choice.” Alice Olivia designer Stacey Bendet, herself a vegan, wears fur and uses it in her collection. “It doesn’t make sense,” she once admitted. “Something about putting it inside me feels really barbaric. Something about wearing it just feels a little glamorous.”

Fur Is Back Big Time — Here's Why

Established designers like Zac Posen now see no downside to collaborating with fur brands — c.f. Posen’s collection for Pologeorgis. Even a series of minor scandals over fur labeling hasn’t served to set back the industry.

Five years ago, PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk said that only “old fogey designers like Karl Lagerfeld and so on” used fur, and that fashion’s new generation just wasn’t that into fur. Clearly, Newkirk was wrong.

In the past decade, fur has gone from being a kind of ethical third rail to just one point on the developing moral questionnaire of modern living. Maybe you care more about the environmental degradation, animal cruelty, and labor issues brought up by the leather tanning industry, or factory farms. Perhaps you think nothing of wearing vintage fur because to throw out a useful garment smacks of waste. Maybe you believe, like Silvia Fendi, that real fur is preferable to fake because, as she put it, “We did a collection of fake fur several years ago but found it is the most polluting thing for the environment.” Perhaps you feel a little like Kelis, who concluded a long MySpace rant against PETA by weighing concern over animal welfare to concern for the human beings who toil in sweatshops and in the fields. “Underpaid minorities picking your vegetables, now that’s fine for you right?” asked Kelis. “Don’t waste my time trying to save the dang chipmunk!”

Whatever the case, fur is back in a big way. And it seems to be here to stay for the foreseeable future.

Did Kim Kardashian spend $3,500 on fur coat for North West? Marc Kaufman Furs NYC

Did Kim Kardashian spend $3,500 on fur coat for North West?

Kim Kardashian with Nori who is wearing a huge fur taking her home in NYC. February 11, 2015 X17online.com (X17)

North West’s wardrobe is getting pricey.

On Wednesday, North braved freezing New York City temperatures wearing a fur coat as she trotted behind her reality-star mom, Kim Kardashian.

Jody Wolfe and Marc Kaufman, of Kaufman Furs, identified the tot’s coat as being made from crystal fox fur and estimated it to cost about $3,500 (if real).

“It looks nice on the baby,” quipped Kaufman, who added his celebrity clients include Diddy, 50 Cent and Janet Jackson.

Although it’s unclear if the fur is real or faux, PETA’s Senior Vice President Lisa Lange told Page Six in a statement: “Kids are naturally drawn to animals and sympathetic to their plight, and there’s no reason to think that North is any different. If the fur coat that she’s been dressed in is real, animals have suffered for vanity, something that we’re sure neither North nor any little girl her age would support.”

Beyond her fur, the 20-month-old mini-fashionista wore head-to-toe black, capping off her moody look with black Doc Martens.

When photographed without North, Kardashian, 34, kept her fur-collar black coat open revealing her hip-hugging black pencil skirt and black corset top with a plunging neckline.

Karadashian slipped into the coat as she guided her daughter through the paparazzi.

Why so much glam for a Wednesday night? The fashionable mother-daughter duo attended Kanye West’s Adidas fashion show in Soho.

Rihanna Beautiful Mink Coat

Rihanna steps out in baggy layers but adds extravagant touch with a mink coat the same one which caused uproar last year

She exposed oodles of flesh in a cut-out evening gown on Wednesday night.

But Rihanna appeared to be feeling more shy come Friday evening when she stepped out in New York in baggy layers.

However, the 26-year-old pop diva added an extravagant touch to her look with a mink coat – notably the same one that had animal cruelty protesters up in arms last year.

With temperatures dropping, Rihanna – who is a known fan of fur clothing and accessories – dug out the pelted knee-length garment for her evening jaunt.

Underneath she wore a loose-fitting graphic print T-shirt with black skinny jeans and donned flat Nike lace-ups on her feet.

She tied her raven locks into a low ponytail, with her fringe swept to the side and donned huge brown cat-eye sunglasses – which appeared to be trimmed with fuzzy felt.

On Wednesday the Bajan beauty looked dramatically different in a risqué evening dress as she attended the amfAR Gala in Hollywood to Honor fashion designer Tom Ford.

The singer had donned a gown, by the man of the evening himself, which left little to the imagination with a hip-high slit and nude panels with purple sequins at the bust.

The star added a further racy touch with thigh high black stockings and purple platform heels.

Rihanna splashed a lot of cash during the evening, shelling out $35,000 on Harry Winston diamond link earrings featuring 72 diamonds set in platinum.

Rihanna spent some time catching up with old friend Justin Timberlake as they sat side-by-side at the dinner table looking deep in conversation.

The star duo have been friends for years, and collaborated together on her album Rated R for the moody track Cold Case Love.

In an age when one can rent a Mercedes or a date, fur rentals are still a rarity, according to Konnie Karopoulos, executive director of the Master Furriers Guild of America in New York, a national association of retail furriers. Few companies provide the service because of the risks: They are afraid customers will become attached to the furs and run off with them, Karopoulos said. At Marc Kaufman Furs, if you rent a fur and fall in love with it, we will apply the fur rental charge towards the purchase of the fur that you rented.

The increased growth in rentals reflects an upward sales trend in the fur business, Karopoulos said. Fur is no longer just for warmth on the coldest days of the year, furs has moved into the hot “must have” fashion category and are worn from day to night and across all seasons.

Joe Namath’s Fur Coat is the Talk of the Town

New York, NY – The legendary NY Jets quarterback “Broadway Joe” Willie Namath wore a show-stopping hooded coyote fur coat with white fox trim from local furrier Marc Kaufman Furs when he participated in the Super Bowl XLVIII coin toss on Sunday, along with New York Giants great Phil Simms. To say that his presence didn’t go unnoticed would be the understatement of the year. According to the Internet, Joe Namath’s coyote fur coat was one of the biggest stars of the night. It even has its own Twitter account.

Joe and his coyote fur coat with white fox lining starred in this Super Bowl XLVIII pre-game promo Broadway Joe Namath in his coyote coat from Marc Kaufman Furs with Giants great Phil Simms at Super Bowl XLVIII Broadway Joe, followed by daughter Jessica, showing off his 1969 championship ring. Joe has the distinction of being the only player to lead the New York Jets to a Super Bowl and is known for his swagger on and off the field.

It was January 12, 1969 and Super Bowl III was the third AFL-NFL Championship Game in professional American football, and the first to officially bear the name “Super Bowl”. After winning the coin toss, Namath led the Jets to one of the most iconic upsets in American sports history in a 16-7 win over the Baltimore Colts and was named the game’s MVP.

In the following years, Joe originated the fad of wearing a fur coat on the sidelines and off, a habit which was adopted by many players after him. At 70 years young, Joe continues to rock his signature look, to the delight of generations of Jets fans.

“Broadway Joe” lived up to his name when he arrived at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday wearing a hooded coyote fur, with his beautiful daughter Jessica on his arm, clad in a fox jacket, proving he had lost none of his swagger.

Grinning from ear to ear in his coyote fur coat, Joe Namath tossed the coin before the team captains had made their coin-toss selection and referee Terry McAulay caught it before it landed.

Seattle won the toss anyway, and deferred.

All these years later, and New York still lives within Joe Namath. It will be that way until he takes his final breath. The former Jets quarterback will always be Broadway Joe.

“I feel a part of the history of the city, and it will always be a part of me,” Namath said in an interview with Newsday. “I’m still tickled to share that Broadway handle, because I know the sparkle, the energy. It’s a positive vibe. Anytime you’re on Broadway, it’s just full of energy, and you don’t get that anywhere else.”

It has been 45 years since Broadway Joe led the Jets to the greatest upset in NFL history, a 16-7 win over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III at the Orange Bowl. The Jets haven’t gotten back to the Super Bowl since then, which makes Namath’s moment more mythical — and more of a painful reminder of the Jets’ futility. They have been to four AFC Championship Games since Namath famously wagged his index finger to the sky while jogging off the field on that amazing day in Miami.

Now that the Super Bowl is in the New York area for the first time, Namath has returned from South Florida to his ancestral NFL home to enjoy the festivities and relive memories of his iconic accomplishment on Jan. 12, 1969. A lifetime ago in years, perhaps, but the memories remain vivid for Namath and his teammates.

“I’m excited to spend time, rub shoulders and visit with the folks leading up to the game,” said Namath, who will make a few public appearances and will be at MetLife Stadium Sunday night for Broncos-Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII.

“The week leading up to the game is one of the best, if not the best, in sports. There isn’t a loser yet, and everyone’s so damn happy to be there and the competitive spirit. It will be good feeling that energy again the way only New York can do it.”

Guarantee changed NFL

Namath is largely responsible for the spectacle that Super Bowl week has become, all because of an impromptu moment during a speech at the Miami Touchdown Club three days before Super Bowl III. He was being heckled by some fans, and Namath, growing agitated, guaranteed the Jets would win.

“It wasn’t preplanned or anything,” Namath said. “It just happened.”

Former Jets center John Schmitt, who lives in Brookville, remembers the first moments of the fallout from Namath’s prediction.

“The next morning, I’m sitting at one table with my wife, and Joe’s with his girlfriend, a beautiful woman named Suzie Storm,” Schmitt said in a telephone interview.

Schmitt noticed coach Weeb Ewbank walking up to the table, a newspaper under his arm, and looking angry.

“Joe says to Ewbank, ‘Is there something wrong?’ So Ewbank opens up the Miami Herald and points to the headline that says, ‘Namath Guarantees Win.’ Then he says, ‘Joseph, did you say that?’ ”

Namath says he did.

“Weeb is just tearing into him,” Schmitt said. ” ‘Why’d you do it? You know what they’re going to do with this article? They’re gonna put it up on their wall and they’re gonna go try to kill us.’

“Namath calmly looked at Ewbank and said, ‘Coach, you’ve been telling us for two weeks we’re going to win. I just told them what you’ve been telling us.’

“Weeb just walked away and shook his head,” Schmitt said.

More than four decades later, the guarantee still resonates. The Jets’ shocking win helped legitimize the 9-year-old American Football League, which until then had been considered vastly inferior to the more established NFL. Namath’s place in history was assured.

“It meant a lot because nobody thought we had a chance,” Namath said.

Still an A-list celebrity

Even now, at 70, Namath remains immensely popular, a larger-than-life figure swarmed by well-wishers and autograph seekers whenever he goes out in public. Especially in New York, where he has been referred to as Broadway Joe ever since teammate Sherman Plunkett, a massive offensive tackle, started using the nickname for Namath during their days together in New York.

Namath, a Jet from 1965 through 1976, has a website that uses his popular moniker — BroadwayJoe.tv — and remains involved in a handful of commercial endeavors, including “The Joe Namath Cooker” and “Joe Namath Steaks.”

Namath actually did appear in a Broadway play, “The Caine Mutiny Court Martial.”

It was one of several well-publicized off-field ventures for Namath, who was one of the most magnetic media figures of his, or any, era. There were television advertisements, including one in which he was shaved by an obscure actress named Farrah Fawcett in a Noxzema commercial. He posed in pantyhose for a magazine ad. And there were plenty of pictures of his ventures into Manhattan, where he enjoyed the night life.

Namath loved the lifestyle back then, but if he were playing today, he might not have become the kind of charismatic figure he was during his day. In today’s world of social media, where every public moment, and even some private ones, can be beamed worldwide in seconds, Namath said he might have begged off.

“In today’s climate, I’m not sure the players can relax as much as we did back then,” he said. “Away from the practice area, out by the swimming pool, out to dinner visiting. It’s a lot more difficult for the players to relax. So no, I wouldn’t .

“Let’s not elaborate on whether I could or not. I wouldn’t attempt it. Of course not. There’s a time to be on stage and do what you need to do, but there’s a time to be offstage and do what you need to do privately.”

No regrets

Namath wouldn’t trade his own life for anything, though. Not the football career. Not the off-field opportunities. And especially the Super Bowl experience.

“I can remember George Sauer and I were sitting on the sideline during Media Day at practice several days before the game, and George looked over to me and said, ‘Man, the enormity of all this, it’s amazing.’ It wasn’t big by today’s standards, but it was big to us then. It was the biggest thing in our lives at the time.

“It was the biggest chance we had for a dream to come true to be a champion. You play pee wee ball, junior high, high school, college. Each time you’re climbing the ladder trying to get to that next level.

“I was a kid watching football on black and white TV. You visualize yourself back then winning a championship, and we were able to do it. That was a special time, just an amazing time.”
